Uncharted and Undreamt

Uncharted, undreamt unexpected pages of my future stretch before me, taunting me with their unlimited possibilities.

I love change, when I decide to make the change — as most of us do. We embrace it, it excites us, and promises us something better then our current circumstances. We resist change when we feel it is out of the realm of our control, when we are forced, or feel that something is being taken from us. This type of change is uncomfortable, it’s uncertainty evokes fear. This type of change leads, while we are required to follow.

Where are the signs delivered to me by the light house to sway my course from danger?

With making decisions, accepting change, and following new paths I’ve often found I look for signs: signs within myself or signs within the universe that I am on the right road. We desperately seek certainty, validation, and confirmation. Reflecting on my past memories, choices, and pivotal transitions of my life I understand that the future does not come with a map. The future unfolds with each decision we make; it is guided by our resilience, hope, and the lessons we’ve learned along the way. We must create that map ourselves — just as with any exploration; we forge the road. Not only that but we ultimately have to surrender and release ourselves from the outcome, our expectations or the desired outcome; and trust what you cannot see.

The unknown beckons me. The unknown has a lesson.

When you change your perspective of “I’m being forced into this change” to “I get the opportunity to change and grow” you are allowing yourself the opportunity to rise to the challenge. You’ve permitted yourself to break free from the eternal state of fear, ruminating thoughts, and desire to resist the unknown that accompanies change. Embracing the void is our opportunity to challenge ourselves, and let go of expectations. This is bittersweet yes, but also empowering when you reach the other side.

A call to action…

…with gratitude as my guide.

Though it can feel impossible at times, personally and regardless of what happens I do try to remain grateful. Gratitude keeps me open and receptive to lessons and experiences: grateful for the experiences of the past; grateful for a chance to grow; grateful for a good book or day of sun. I remain grateful of anything that brings about positive feelings, peace, or comfort during a time that I perceive to be a negative change. Discomfort is temporary, and I know there will be a time on my road of unknowns that I will feel certainty again. Choose to be curious rather then fearful, choose to look at each day as an opportunity even it if looks different than what you expected.

Guide me on my road of unwritten pages.
